formlessness, 2025
stoneware, sand, stepper motors, circuit boards, acrylic, aluminium, stainless steel
Formlessness is a poetic portrayal of time, expressing itself in a kinetic sound installation inspired by the tides of the sea and her processes. Form to formlessness.
The installation questions our relationship to both our natural and synthetic environment. Our significance and position in time and how we alienate ourselves from natural processes. Functioning in an artificial frequency.
Accompanying this installation is a set of objects and prints exploring visual and theoretical research, which I am currently working on. This information is collected from different beaches, mythical and alchemical texts.
The work shows multiple shapes that rotate, each containing a different fase of eroded sand. The sounds are shaped by the friction created between the ceramic base and the sizes of the grains of sand.
